Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can someone start training?

We accept students as young as age 4.  Our Lil' Dragons program for ages 4-6 not only teaches martial arts basics but also emphasizes life and safety skills such as stranger awareness, first aid and respect to name only a couple.  Advancement in the Lil' Dragons program is based on attendance instead of technical skills due to the wide variance in maturity and physical abilities for children in this age group.  While younger students are capable of learning some basic techniques as well as improving their balance and coordination they lack the capacity to understand and implement many of the physical and mental aspects of martial arts.

Do you offer an after school transportation and martial arts program?

No, not at the present time. We are considering the option for the 2012-2013 school year.

How safe is Tae Kwon Do training?

Tae Kwon Do is safe and fun for students of all ages and physical abilities. Classes are taught by certified instructors, who teach students techniques in a step-by-step manner at their own pace. A thorough stretching routine, matted flooring and protective safety equipment are all part of our commitment to ensuring student safety.

Will my child become more aggressive?

Highly  unlikely, your child will be taught that Tae Kwon Do students should never misuse their martial arts skills. Throughout their training, they will be reminded that being physically and mentally tough does not allow one to bully others. Instead, Tae Kwon Do students are taught based on five tenets; Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

How do you handle students transferring from other schools?

Unfortunately training and rank promotion standards vary greatly between schools.  Many schools are nothing more than “belt factories” with low standards. These schools are more interested in taking your money and promoting students, often without merit in order to keep everyone happy. This is an injustice to their students and to Martial Arts of all disciplines.  We will evaluate each new student over several classes to determine their skill level and place them appropriately within our program. It is not uncommon, for students transferring from other schools, to have to back up one or more belt levels. This evaluation process will also apply to transferring Black Belt students who have not previously obtained certification from the Kukkiwon (World Tae Kwon Do headquarters, Seoul South Korea)  / World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF).

Does your school compete in tournaments?

Yes. Although not required of our students, we believe that tournaments play an important part in one’s training and character development, as well as increasing the camaraderie of the students at our school. We participate in tournaments sanctioned by USATaekwondo, AAU as well as non sanctioned tournaments. Students must be current members of USA Taekwondo and or AAU to participate in sanctioned events.
